Meet Dr. Rissel

Richard C. Rissel, DMD grew up in a beach community on the New Jersey shore and then attended Trinity College, Hartford Connecticut. Following that, Dr. Rissel entered the [COUNTY] Marine Corps and became a fighter pilot, flying over 200 missions in Viet Nam in the F-4B Phantom. After mustering out of the Marine Corps, Dr. Rissel attended Washington University School of Dental Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri on a US Navy scholarship. Following graduation, Dr. Rissel was stationed at Miramar Naval Air Station where he had responsibility for the dental care of several operational squadrons and the prisoner-of-war training facility in Warner Springs. Mustering out again, he then completed a pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital Medical Center Oakland. He opened his Concord practice in July 1980.

Dr. Rissel is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists, the American Society of Dentistry for Children, the American Association for Functional Orthodontics, the American Society of Orthodontics, the American Dental Association, and for many years was on the board of trustees of the Contra Costa Dental Society of which he continues to be a member. He was a visiting lecturer at Children’s Hospital residency program, and has given numerous lectures to pediatrician groups in the East Bay.

Dr. Rissel is married to the former Kathleen Milligan and has three children, all of whom have graduated from college. The two oldest live in the Bay Area, and the youngest lives in Wellington, New Zealand. He also has two step children who are also college graduates who both now live in the Pacific Northwest. During spare time, he enjoys fly fishing, skiing, hiking, golf, and almost any outdoor activity.
